What is Linux?

Linux is the best-known and most-used open source operating system. It was first introduced by Linus Torvalds. It is based on the Linux Kernel, and can run on different hardware platforms manufactured by Intel, MIPS, HP, IBM, SPARC and Motorola. It is the software on a computer that enables applications and the computer operator to access the devices on the computer to perform desired functions.
